Read what others are doing and writing about. Email them and build your network with these people. Chances are they aren’t your competitors and they might be very willing to help you and perhaps even collaborate with you.
If you have online blogs a niche blog that provides useful information you can attract targeted traffic from the search engines. With this traffic you find people that are searching for the solution to a problem and, since they are actively looking for information on your topic, they will be more likely to click through to an advertisers site. Let the advertiser try to further monetize the traffic by selling a product or service. You simply act as a middle man between the search engine and advertiser and provide the client with traffic.
