This process brings much of the debate over the construction of salt caverns. First off, millions of gallons of water must be used to create the cavern, and secondly the location as to where the saltwater goes. People are concerned it may dry up their water sources or even pollute them.

However, you can have the same apparatus for much less than half that amount.

Then Barbara had a thought. Why not take their plans into the country? With a larger property, situated near a stream or a river, on a few acres, they could add a cistern for water storage, handle a larger garden, more for the surplus, get more chickens and goats and even a few more bee hives. Cattle and pigs could be added.
